Online GIS Support

 

NOTE: In order to use our online GIS support service, you need to have a working copy of a specific GIS software packages on your computer, to have fast broadband internet access where to wish to do the session and have access to Skype.  This service is also enhanced if you have Windows Remote Assistance software loaded onto your computer.

 

**Coming Soon**: We will soon be introducing a 3 hour one-to-one online introduction to GIS for ecologists for ArcView 9.3 and ArcGIS 9.3 users. This will involve a brief introduction to GIS and how it can be used in ecological research, followed by familiarisation session with the software and a tutorial which will cover how to set up a GIS project, how add data to it, and how to how to create a map for inclusion in a report or publication.  These introductory session will be subject to availability.  Contact info@GISinEcology.com for more information.

 

Available Now:

Online GIS Support is available for ArcView 3.3, ArcView 9.3, ArcGIS 9.3, ArcView 10 and ArcGIS 10 users.  We can also provide online GIS support for GRASS, Quantum GIS With GRASS and MapWindow users under some circumstances (contact info@GISinEcology.com for more information).

This is a new one-to-one GIS support service offered by GIS In Ecology .  It makes use of Windows Remote Assistance and Skype to provide a real-time, online service to provide GIS support.  

if you do not have access to Windows Remote Assistance, or it is blocked from access by your network administrators, you can still access this online GIS support service for some purposes as long as you have Skype, as the Share Screen option to see your computer and help you to navigate through the GIS processes which you wish to learn. Using this online GIS support, we can provide you with general introductions and overviews of your GIS software, help you set up your own GIS project, provide you with supported lessons either based on the exercises in An Introduction To Using GIS In Marine Biology: Supplementary Workbook One or customised to your specific requirements, teach you how to do specific tasks with your data or help set up a specific GIS projects.  Basically, let us know what you would like us to teach or demonstrate and we will then let you know if we can do it and how long it would take. 

This online GIS support is charged at rate of £60 per hour (with £30 per hour for any preparation time that may be involved by us prior to providing the support).  It is provided by prior arrangement only.  Availability may be limited at certain times if all our teachers are already booked up.
